Cannabis for Medical Purposes

Through the amendments to the Law on the Control of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances adopted in March 2016, the Republic of North Macedonia follows global economic trends by allowing the cultivation and production of cannabis, which enabled the rapid development of a young industry.

Cultivation of cannabis in the Republic of North Macedonia is allowed for the purposes and under the conditions established by the Law on the Control of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, that is, the Macedonian legislation allows the cultivation of cannabis only for medical and scientific purposes.

According to the current legal solutions, cannabis grown in the country can be processed exclusively in the Republic of North Macedonia by a legal entity that has a license to produce cannabis extracts. However, the Ministry of Health is preparing a new Law on the Control of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, which provides for liberalization in this sphere as well, i.e. the text of the new Law would allow the export of the dry mass in the form of a flower obtained from the dried cannabis plant, as and the import, export and trade of cannabis seed and planting material.

The law firm Tošić and Jevtic is in constant step with this dynamic problem and offers its clients comprehensive legal services in the area, through the preparation of legal opinions in the area to representation before all administrative authorities and institutions in order to obtain the necessary permits and approvals for starting with work, as well as support in work.

Our law firm currently provides legal support to several investments for the cultivation and production of medical cannabis worth a total of more than 35 million euros.
